Group Activity Offerings

‍ We are grateful to each resident who has agreed to lead a group and welcome your ideas for new groups. You needn’t be an expert, just someone who wants to pursue an activity with others interested in the same subject. (Possibilities include: bird watching, hiking, bicycling, day trips, star gazing, pet parents, wildlife observation, and many more.)

‍ Contact Laurel Marshfield at: cbicamelot@gmail.com to suggest a group you’d like to organize. We will help you attract members by advertising it to the community.

Community Building Initiatives: Interest Groups

  • T’ai Chi

T’ai Chi is a series of gentle flowing exercise motions that restore balance and flexibility while leading to a calming meditative outcome. David Hantman will teach the Yang style short form of T’ai Chi. For those with experience, he will also teach Push Hands. Classes offered free; donations accepted.

David Hantman has studied with William CC Chen and was certified by Dr. Paul Lam’s “T’ai Chi for Health,” as well as by “Open Door to T’ai Chi.”

  • Frisbee Sports

Frisbee or Disc sports have a long history. The Frisbee Golf version is played by aiming a frisbee at a target (chains on a catch pole, with a basket below). People can play nine- or eighteen-hole frisbee golf and there are special areas in Cape Henlopen State Park for the sport. Jeff will explain the history of disc sports and teach multiple ways to throw & catch. Have fun while getting exercise!

‍ Jeff Read is a longtime frisbee athlete who has been playing since the early 1970s. He has a collection of 300 discs of all types and his back yard sports a Frisbee Golf target for frequent practice.

  • Readers of the Round Table

Reading books broadens perspectives, introducing us to worlds past, present, and future. Reading fiction, specifically, has been shown to increase empathy. This group has met several times, but Susan Felpel welcomes more readers. All book genres will be considered.

‍Susan Felpel is a lifelong reader who, as she says, “loves to read” and meet new people. She envisions a friendly group for socialization, snacks, and good conversations in the Clubhouse.

  • Gardening Group

Many Camelot residents have gardens of various kinds surrounding their homes. This group will discuss all things gardening, including native plants that work especially well in Camelot, for instance, the fact that Sussex County has now slipped into a slightly warmer planting zone (due to climate change), and all the gardening questions and knowledge group members are interested in exploring.

‍We might visit a botanical garden or various nurseries, and perhaps figure out how to beautify the pool area in summer with potted plants. Mostly, though, we’ll focus on our own gardening experiences and questions.

The following groups were formed by Camelot residents who took the initiative to bring people together in new ways. Their independent groups are not part of the HOA’s CBI program.

  • Camelot Pool Aquatics

Ted Mason offers his aquatics pool exercise group while the pool is open during the spring and summer months. Exercises include range of motion, stretching, and light jogging in shallow and deep water. A pool noodle will be needed (a few are available to newcomers), but they can be purchased for about $3.00 at Giant or a Dollar Store.

Aquatics exercise meets at the Camelot pool Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, from 11:30 to 12:30 (sometimes a little longer, sometimes less). Donations accepted.

These two groups, led by Robin Hill, are on hiatus over the spring and summer, but will restart in September.

  • Game Day

Third Monday of each month at 1:00 PM in the Clubhouse. Water and snacks provided; bring your own snack, if you prefer. Ends after the May session, begins again in September.
